Banff Elopement Packages: What to Expect
A Banff National Park elopement is breathtaking, intimate, and truly the kind of experience that strips things back to what actually matters while surrounding you with some of the most unreal scenery in the world!
Throughout this guide, you’ll see images from Keanna and Jackson’s Banff National Park elopement. They planned a day that felt super personal and intimate. Keanna got ready with her family, and her mom even made her dress, and Jackson’s mom created her bouquet. These details added so much heart to their elopement and made it feel unique and true to them.
Their day was intentional, candid, and film-inspired. It is a great example of how eloping in Banff National Park can be simple without feeling minimal!

Yes, you can absolutely elope in Banff National Park!
You can elope in Banff National Park as long as you follow Parks Canada wedding guidelines and obtain the proper permits. This applies even for small ceremonies with just a few people present. These rules are in place to protect the area while still allowing couples to plan meaningful elopement days.
Most Banff National Park elopements are simple and low impact. They focus on the experience rather than production, which is a huge part of why couples love Banff!

A Banff National Park elopement can give you variety without stress. You can experience mountain views, lakes, forests, and scenic overlooks without spending hours traveling between locations.
I love how flexible eloping in Banff National Park can be. Your day does not need to feel rushed or overly structured. It can be intentional and fully centered on you and your partner. Exactly what a wedding day should feel like, if you ask me.
Banff elopements are ideal for couples who want:

Mount Norquay Lookout is such a dreamy ceremony location for a Banff National Park elopement. It has sweeping mountain views and easy access, which makes it a great option for small ceremonies!
Keanna and Jackson chose this location for their ceremony. It fit their laid-back approach perfectly and allowed us to create beautiful portraits without a long hike!

Other locations that work well for eloping in Banff National Park:
These are just a few more options. There are more locations to choose from. Whether you want something easy, a hiking elopement, or even something fun and untraditional like taking a helicopter!

A special event permit from Parks Canada is required for any Banff National Park elopement. This applies to both your ceremony and professional photography, even for small and intimate weddings.
It’s important to plan ahead when eloping in Banff National Park. Wedding and elopement photographers are required to apply for a Parks Canada business license to legally photograph elopements within the park. Booking your photographer early helps ensure all requirements are in place before your ceremony!
As part of the process, couples must complete a wedding ceremony registration form which you’ll find on this page. This form is used to confirm that you understand and agree to all ceremony conditions within the park.
The completed form must be read, signed, and returned no later than three days before your ceremony. It can be submitted by email or sent by mail.
Some important conditions to be aware of:
The registration form itself is quick and straightforward. Permit requirements can vary based on location and group size, which is why planning ahead matters. I help guide my couples through this process so nothing is missed and everything feels clear and manageable!

Summer is the most popular time for a Banff National Park elopement. July and August offer long daylight hours and mild weather.
When I photographed Keanna and Jackson’s elopement, sunset happened very late. It was still light well after 9pm. This made it easier to split their day into multiple parts without feeling rushed.
Spring is quieter and more unpredictable. Snow can into May, especially at higher elevations, but that also means fewer crowds and epic mountain backdrops with fresh snow and early signs of green starting to show!
Fall brings cooler temperatures and changing colors.
Winter elopements offer snow-covered landscapes and fewer crowds. Each season creates a completely different experience!

There is no single or “right” way to structure a Banff National Park elopement day. That flexibility is one of the best parts!
A typical day could include:
Keanna and Jackson chose to break their day into two parts. We photographed their ceremony and portraits in the morning. They spent the afternoon with family, then met back up that night for a bowling reception at High Rollers. It felt super natural and unforced!

If you are drawn to a more nostalgic, intentional look, film photography can add something really special to your Banff National Park elopement.
I photograph a lot of elopements on both digital and film. Film brings a softness and depth that feels so fitting for a place like Banff. The colors, movement, and imperfections create images that feel honest and raw.
Keanna and Jackson’s elopement was a perfect example of this. Their day was candid and film-inspired, which made shooting portions of it on film feel like a natural fit. The result is imagery that feels true to the experience of the day, not just what it looked like.
If you are looking for a Banff elopement photographer who also shoots on film, I would love to document your day in a way that feels intentional and personal!
And if you are curious about the differences between digital and film photography, I go more in depth in my Digital vs Film Wedding Photography guide. It breaks down what each medium looks like, how they feel, and how to decide which approach fits your elopement best!
