Meet Bri – The Girl Behind The Camera
Planning your engagement or couples photoshoot can feel exciting but also a little daunting, especially when it comes to couples’ poses for photos. And even more so if you’re not used to being in front of the camera. But no worries—there’s no need to stress! I’m here to make your session fun, authentic to you and your partner, and so much more. I’m here to be your guide, so you don’t even have to worry about the poses. Whether you’re shy in front of the camera or comfortable taking photos, I want you to feel confident and prepared for your session!
During this session with Hannah and Xavier, we were able to make it feel more like a date night than a photoshoot, and that’s always my goal. That’s why I’ve created this ultimate guide to how I pose and guide my couples for their photos. So, keep scrolling!
Sometimes, people think that posing means I’m looking to get those picture-perfect, cookie cutter images. But that’s NOT what I’m here to do. Of course, we’ll get some posed images like that, but I truly love capturing the essence of storytelling—showcasing your relationship in a way that feels authentic to you. When posing and guiding is done correctly, they can really bring out your personalities, make your session feel more like a date than a photoshoot, and highlight the connection you have as a couple. I want you to feel at ease so that posing feels like second nature!
As a photographer with a cinematic, editorial, and documentary style, I focus on creating images that feel like a scene from your favorite movie—timeless, emotive, and uniquely yours.
Before your session, it’s so important to prepare so that you can set yourself up for success. Here are some thing’s I recommend doing before your session:
When it comes to couples poses for photos, we’ll start with something simple and relaxed to get you warmed up. My approach combines cinematic vibes, editorial flair, and a documentary touch. Here are a few go-to basics that never fail:
Stand close together, wrap your arms around each other, and let your forehead or noses touch. This is a timeless pose that feels intimate and is super easy to achieve.
Holding hands while you walk towards or away from the camera always makes for a cute photo. Don’t worry about getting it perfect. Just focus on the moment, and I’ll capture the movement and emotion in an authentic way.
Another simple couple pose is standing shoulder to shoulder with your partner. Lean into each other, exchange glances or laughs. It feels natural, effortless, and is perfect for those candid yet editorial feeling photos.
Movement brings so much energy to your photos and makes posing feel less static. As a photographer who loves to blend the cinematic, documentary, and editorial style, I’ll guide you through moments that feel unscripted and bring your photos to life. Some of my favorite movement-based poses for photos include:
Having one partner lift and spin the other around is perfect for adding movement to your photos. The result? Genuine smiles and beautiful movement that looks straight out of a romcom.
Whether it’s just a twirl, dip, or just swaying back and fourth with your partner, dancing creates romantic, in-the-moment shots that feel so cinematic.
Another fun pose to help add movement to your photos is what I like to call a “catch and release” pose. You and your partner hold hands and playfully lean back and fourth. When one partner comes back in, you can wrap them in a playful hug!
The magic of a couples photoshoot lies in capturing the unique bond you and your partner have. My cinematic approach ensure that your images feel raw, emotive, and personal. Here’s how we’ll draw out that emotion:
Stand face-to-face, noses almost touching, and share jokes with one another or look back on a funny memory. This helps to create genuine laughter and showcase the connection you have in a natural, cinematic way.
Instead of a full-on kiss, lean in just close enough that your lips almost touch. This can add intimacy and anticipation while keeping the shot feeling cinematic. Or you can have one partner lean in and pretend they’re telling you a secret for those cute and intimate shots!
Whether you’re sitting on a blanket, a fallen log, or on a bench, cuddling up can create that cozy, romantic vibe. I love this pose because it’s always so cute and delivers every time!
My hope is that this guide on couples poses for photos makes you feel more comfortable for your upcoming session! Your photoshoot is more than just a set of poses—it’s an opportunity to celebrate your relationship and create memories together that will last a lifetime! My goal is to make this feel more like a date than a photoshoot. That’s why I focus on connection, movement, and genuine moments so that we can create images that feel uniquely you! Hi there, I’m Bri! I’m a Las Vegas-based photographer with a passport that’s always ready for an adventure. Born and raised in a small Wisconsin town (population: 700!), I moved to Las Vegas in 2019, craving a fresh start. I’ve fallen in love with the vibrant energy of the city, the breathtaking hikes in Red Rock, and road trips to nearby stunning locations. My passion for photography began with a disposable camera as a kid, and today, it’s evolved into creating cinematic, editorial, and documentary-style images that celebrate human connection and creativity.
This isn’t just a job for me; it’s my passion. Let’s work together to capture your love story—whether it’s a couples session, engagement, elopement, or intimate wedding in Las Vegas or beyond! Inquire with me and check out more of my blog or portfolio to see more of my work!
